After a years worth of searching and trying to find some documentation regarding the infamous
Casa Grande Domes in Casa Grande, AZ... a breakthrough was made. On August 8th, 2009 I was again searching the internet for information regarding these domes. If you haven't already heard, here's some interesting information from the Casa Grande Dispatch for August 3rd, 2009:
One of the many questions we have been asked and asked ourselves, why were they built? was is some sort of government experiment? The Answer: They were constructed for an electronics assembly plant based out of California that had plans to make this site the company headquarters. According to the news article, it was never finished and the company ended up losing the property.
How were they built? And what is with the foam insulation on the outside? The Answer: The shells or domes were constructed by pouring three inches of polyurethane followed by three inches of concrete against a balloon inside, held up by a steel skeleton. The domes were constructed for insulation efficiency and lower costs and construction time.
Until this article, my attempts at finding the owners of these domes has come up empty. If you want to check out the domes for an investigation, I suggest you get into contact with the owners, they can and will press trespassing charges, respectfully since it is private property!
Another reason why you should always ask permission to investigate any location! There could be
hefty fines and even jail time if you do not!
The domes are still vacant, even after 27 years. Check out the article at
