As the night's start getting warmer, and the days become extremely hot here in Arizona, it is important that you take care of yourself. Even though Heat Exhaustion is usually something you see during the daytime, it is important to remember that it can also occur at night as well!

Some of the symptoms of Heat Exhaustion is:

  • Feeling faint or dizzy
    Nausea
    Heavy sweating
    Rapid, weak heartbeat
    Low blood pressure
    Cool, moist, pale skin
    Low-grade fever
    Heat cramps
    Headache
    Fatigue
    Dark-colored urine

If you or someone you know suspects Heat Exhaustion, here are some things you should do:

  • Get the person out of the sun and into a shady or air-conditioned location.
Lay the person down and elevate the legs and feet slightly.
Loosen or remove the person's clothing.
Have the person drink cool water.
Cool the person by spraying or sponging him or her with cool water and fanning.
Monitor the person carefully. Heat exhaustion can quickly become heatstroke.
If fever greater than 102 F (38.9 C), fainting, confusion or seizures occur, dial 911 or call for emergency medical assistance.

ALWAYS carry water with you! Avoid caffiene beverages, and a no brainer during investigations.... NO ALCOHOL! If we are careful to follow some important guidelines, and educate ourselves about Heat Exhaustion, we can enjoy our investigations and keep eachother safe! Just because we investigate at night, does NOT mean we can't suffer from Heat Exhaustion...

Let's Be Safe Out There!
