Recently, Meggy conducted an EVP session that she asked me to review to see if I could corroborate the findings that she had marked. Some interesting things were discovered indeed...

It was a recording that was seemingly like that of a child that was talking at a spastic rate with the result being a whiny sounding muttering. The problem I was having with it was that it seemed to have a speech pattern, so I slowed it down. Sure enough, when slowed down from our (normal) speed, the whiny noises became words, clear words. And it was clear that the speaker was most likely a woman, not a child. Even stranger was that what was spoken seemed to be in the context and answer to the questions being asked during the session!

Now, I find myself going back though past investigations where I recall similar spastic chatter (still doing this so the results are not in), to see if this is an isolated incident or not. It definitely made me wonder though if apparitions thrive at one (faster) frequency, or possible several, explaining why they are so hard to consistently work with!

Today I was reading an interesting article on a site that makes paranormal research gear that discussed the use of IR strobes to test this very same possibility on the visible spectrum, His article explained that this is not a new idea (I have heard about the differing frequencies ideas, but never put that and 'speed' together) This is very intriguing indeed!

I would be interested in hearing what others have experienced in relation to this phenomenon!

As some of you may remember Shawn’s story regarding the Disappearing Object Phenomena aka The DOPpler Effect, Shawn’s pen had been taken from his person on our investigation at the King Residence in October of 2009. While Shawn found his pen the same night in the trunk of his car, we couldn’t help but think of this incident as an isolated incident.
We investigated the King Residence a second time on February 13, 2010. During this investigation we had two new investigators along with Shawn and me. Without giving too much away before the final report is released, Pamie stated that her pink and black lighter was nowhere to be found. She stated that she puts it in a separate pocket in her purse, when she was on her way home from the investigation, she could not find it. She searched her purse twice… on the third attempt after arriving home, she found the lighter in the exact pocket that it is normally placed in. She swears it was not there before.

When I left the King Residence, I noticed that my MP3 player was not in my vehicle, I had been listening to it on the way to the investigation. I decided that it was already late and I wouldn’t worry till the morning. The next morning I contacted Shawn and Pamie and asked if they had seen the MP3 player, no one had. I searched my vehicle, purse, wallet, and equipment case… the MP3 player was nowhere to be found.
I was bit bummed that all I would b able to listen to on my flight to Reno was the hum of the airplane engine. While in Reno I had my wallet with me as well as my purse. I had opened up the compartments in my wallet several times.

When I came back to Reno, I was looking for our debit card, I went to look in my wallet, unzipped the compartments, nothing, looked in my vehicle, nothing… I remembered that I had placed the debit card in a pair of jeans, I ran upstairs and brought down the debit card and was going to place it in my wallet. I opened up the compartment and there was my MP3 player.
While we did not want to go “paranormal” on this incident, we do have to point out the uncanny coincidence that all objects that were taken and then given back have a pink/red hue in color.

The red pen, the pink and black lighter, and the pink MP3 player.

I know that feeling. It happened to me not long ago and I still get chills thinking about it. The thing that most stands out in what happened to me is that I was sound asleep till this happened.
I was awakened by someone/something pulling on my foot and hearing as I woke up "come on lets go" and I turned to look and  my honey was sound asleep next to me on the bed.
This is one of the things that has happened since dsgh were here and I was waiting to tell meggy when she came but I couldnt help replying to this post. I'll let you know if anything else happens.  { I am hoping nothing does } cause to be honest I have never had something like that happen and I would swear to it under oath that it was real.. {and it scared the crap out of me.}

Well first off I just want to say I know for a fact that he had his pen with him when we started the night. I know this because I live at the king residence and  I was standing next to him when he offered it to me to sign the papers.  LoL.  So I am just saying that I for 1 believe that the disapearing act sounds like a good way for someone/somethingt to really play with someones mind.
I am looking forward to the next visit and what they find this time.  I have listened to the tapes and looked at the videos again and again and I think there are a few things I believe we missed the first time. I am looking forward to telling meggy about the things I found and getting her responce.
I think this visit will enlighten us a little more about the things going on in the house, I hope.

Recently, I had an experience that others have written about or verbally reported about for years.  It involved being physically touched by an unseen presence.  I hesitate to say 'ghost' only because I am not completely convinced it came about as the result of a deceased person (however I can't rule it out).  Of the very few things I am sure about regarding the incident, I can confidently say, one, it wasn't a muscle spasm and two, it felt like a personal touch. What I mean by that is if you were to close your eyes and feel it happen to you, you would be convinced someone gently poked you with their finger...only no one was there.

I did a lot of searching on the Internet to see what the common perceptions were pertaining to this type of phenomenon.  I was disappointed to find that while there was a lot of chatter pertaining to personal experiences related to being touched, there were absolutely no theories whatsoever regarding the possible cause.  Being a paranormal investigator, I find it hard to believe that there has not been more discussion or theories in this regard.  If one takes a moment to ponder the phenomenon, you can understand my bewilderment.

Lets look at all the variables for a moment and see what seems to be consistant.  First lets look at what happens when a person (living, breathing) touches you.  The person that touched you has mass.  On an atomic level, this mass is broken down into a series of electrons, neutrons and protons.  To keep things simple I will only go so far as to say that while the particles are small, they have negative, neutral and positive charges which are used to hold particles together and repel others.  While it is well known that the majority of an atom is empty space, it is also known that the charges create 'walls' that form solidity of the mass that we perceive in the macrocosm. Because of this solidity, when that person touches you, your own mass makes impact with theirs.  Then of course the nerves are fired, and brain knows about the whole thing.
Now, an entity touched you that has no body, or no mass to speak of, what chain of events occurs that causes the exact same sensations in your nerve endings to fire and tell the brain that you have been touched?

Reading several of the personal experiences that are posted on the Internet, I thought about everything I have every heard regarding movement of physical objects without physical interactions.  I find that none of the theories I have heard conveniently fits all the types of experiences.  Some get a feeling of cold when it occurs, others feel electricty.  The troubling ones are the incidents where folks are scratched or bitten.  I haven't heard any theories that would explain this possibility at all!  I feel these may be a special case (although in the future we may find conceptually, they could be caused the same way, just with greater ferocity), so I will stick to the tamer experiences and offer up a possible (albiet still paranormal in nature) explanation.

A popular theory in the paranormal field right now is that entities, when present, either create or manipulate electromagnetic fields whenever activity of any sort is observed (a noted exception is EVPs, which can occur regardless of observable changes in EMF).  Could it be possible that some entities have the intelligence to focus this energy control it to such a degree that they can create a finite repelling field that is strong enough to influence the atomic charge in your body (within a focal point) and thereby effect the nerve cells in that part of your body? We know we can manipulate magnetic fields to a point that we can feel them 'pushing' away from a particular body.  However, we typically observe this in items that possess conductive qualities.  How does this explain a door (made of wood), that slams shut?

The only other possiblilty that comes to mind is another enigma itself.  While science scoffs at the notion, another idea that is bounced about involves another paranormal idea called psychokinesis or telekinesis.  This ability involves moving physical objects with mental intent.  Unfortunately, while many have claimed to have witnessed this phenomena, science shows that it would violate several scientific principals, and would require some extrodinary evidence to prove conclusive (or even be taken seriously).
In both cases the mental intent of the entity is focused to manipulate energy.  The question becomes then, what energy?

I would love to hear some other ideas presented.  If you have your own or have read an interesting idea pertaining to this phenomenon, please post it, I would love to hear some other ideas.

I have to admit that a guilty pleasure of mine is watching some of the paranormal television shows currently airing.  With the success of shows such as Ghost Hunters, and Ghost Adventures, came several more in the same vein. These were more ghost hunting reality shows, re-enacted ghost stories, or just generalized shows that seem to cover a wide spectrum of paranormal topics ranging from ghosts to UFOs.  Needless to say, I found myself hard pressed to keep track of them long enough to make a judgment determining whether or not they were worth the time to continue watching.  I have recently noticed an interesting pattern that seems to be emerging in some of these shows however, that I find a little disturbing.  What seems to be happening a lot more now is that people who are referred to as skeptics, are being done  so in a negative way, as though this is somehow a bad thing.  I noticed this most blatantly on an episode of a new show on A&E called 'Psychic Kids, Children of the Paranormal'.

In this episode, there were two boys who claimed to have psychic abilities.  Their fathers (stepfather in one case) freely admitted that they were very skeptical of the boys abilities.  This in itself did not seem out of the ordinary.  What was odd was the host, another self proclaimed psychic1, was putting the fathers in a seemingly negative light BECAUSE they were skeptics!

The American Heritage dictionary defines skepticism as: 'A doubting or questioning attitude or state of mind'.  I had to ask myself, "When did this become a bad thing?".  The paranormal field is filled with all sorts, many of which will accept any out of the ordinary event as paranormal without question. This is not a healthy attitude with regards to any experience, whether it be a possible disembodied voice, or a fish stick that looks like the Caucasian Jesus likeness that has been popular since medieval times when it was created by Caucasian artists. It is always important to  step back and ask questions.

Unfortunately I believe that due to the efforts of some of what I call 'extreme' skeptics, the term has been painted with a broad brush in the media as someone who simply refuses to believe anything that is not 'black and white'.  There are those that call themselves skeptics who actually make their living selling books and magazines that truly do not believe any evidence put before them not matter how credible. Instead they will formulate an improbable alternative and claim it is simply 'more' probable (at least to them) than what you are proposing.  The problem with this methodology is that when you do not know enough about the paranormal thing in question (and by the very name, implies pretty much any or all of it) then probability goes right out the window since you DON'T know the probability of the paranormal item!

For example, if you were in the desert and you saw something flying that did not resemble anything you've ever seen (bird, plane, whatever). You would be inclined to believe you saw a UFO.  Now if you did your research and eliminated weather balloons, test aircraft, etc., you would eventually reach the conclusion that it was 'possible' you witnessed a craft that was not of this world. The extreme skeptic would proclaim you saw the reflection of the sun through swamp gas and declare your experience 'debunked'.  If you counter with the fact the you were in the desert and there is not likely any swamp gas for miles, he will counter with 'well lets use Occam's Razor; what more likely, you saw an alien spacecraft, or reflections of the sun through swamp gas?'

Since we don't really know for sure whether or not alien spacecraft exist, you really can't answer the question with any real certainty.  There is certainly mountains of evidence that seems to argue for the existence (of alien space craft), but until one lands on public grounds  with hundreds of camera phones present (owned by people from all over the world to prevent cover-ups), we will never be 100% sure. The problem with positing Occam's razor at all lies in the fact that probability does not even fall into the equation.

Occam's Razor, in simplistic form basically says that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.  An alien spacecraft is (in many ways) a much more simple explanation than the swamp gas theory in a desert, so in cases where it is used to the extreme, this sort of skepticism can be associated with foolishness2. That said, these extreme skeptics should not be setting the standard for the definition.  Otherwise, skeptic and fool will soon be synonymous.

A true skeptic is one that doesn't automatically accept conclusions brought by others without first examining the evidence for themselves. Being skeptical and open minded do not need to be in conflict. Having an open mind can be just as useful in debunking claims as it is in accepting the possible validity of them when all other identified explanations have been eliminated.  An open mind also allows you to forgive yourself if you have to change your mind when new evidence comes to light.

I know it probably appears to the reader at this point that I have hopelessly steered off course from the original point.  I felt it was necessary to pass on the previous information in hopes that it will drive home the real point of the article; being skeptical is not a bad thing.  Yes, there are extreme versions of skepticism that will at times put it in a bad light, but healthy skepticism does not fall into this category. One should not allow fad reality shows to distort what our definition of a skeptic is either.

1I don't label it this way to be negative, but the fact is, ALL psychics are self proclaimed as such since there is no psychic certification process that I know of right now.  They can't even reproduce it (whatever ability they profess to have) reliably in the laboratory.  This does not mean that I am saying it isn't possible for folks to have these abilities, they are just too damn unreliable.  Psychic abilities, like lightning, never seem to have the same accuracy twice!

2Another humorous example of this I watched recently when someone was discussing the idea that something like the Baghdad battery could have been used to power something like light bulbs in the pyramids of Egypt.  When presented with all the evidence of how the ancients easily created these devices and how they could be used for a power source, a particular skeptic said 'So what? (he's quite famous for this line when he has nothing substantial to offer I have noticed, but I do  respect a great deal of his work), where is the other evidence?  Where are the wires?'.  My answer was simple, IF (and that's a real big 'if') the theory was true, it is easy to account for the missing wire; it was melted down and used for something else! If you have kept up on news stories, at least in the Southwest, copper is constantly being stolen, sold, and melted down to use for something else.  I think I would be more shocked if we actually found wire!

LOL! I just have to add that I wasn't BS'n you when I explained the DOPler story... it can make you go crazy! More so when your entire wallet disappears and then reappears underneath a bag of flour on the very top shelf (I'm 5'0 maybe, I don't put ANYTHING I NEED on the top shelf)

Investigator follow-up entry:

I wanted to add an interesting personal experience that recently happened to me that has me wondering if I may or may not have had something mischievous follow me home from the investigation where the pen made its disappearing act.  Keep in mind that this occurrence that I am about to impart is only a personal experience with absolutely no evidence whatsoever other than my own eyewitness testimony, so take it as you will.  However I assure you I have no ulterior motives here other than to entertain you with a very interesting follow up to the DOPler story.

I have been on travel for my work recently which took me to the Dallas / Fort Worth area.  The first week I had started my traveling I stayed at a hotel that had my room on the fourteenth floor.  The room was nothing special, your typical bed, bath and boob tube.  The TV was in a hutch that had a shelf for the remote and game controller, and a bar that you could raid for either cost of your very soul or your your life savings (which ever they determine to be worth more).  The room had one entrance to it, the main door.

Knowing all this, I can get on to the story.  The second day I came back to my hotel room, I noticed the remote control to the TV was missing.  Assuming housekeeping had probably moved it or taken it unwittingly, I did a thorough search of the room first before calling the front desk for a replacement.  I even looked behind furniture (the beds are blocked so there is no 'under the beds', to speak of), but not luck.  I called the front desk and they had an engineer come to my room where he repeated the search I just had before giving me a new remote.  Again, I assumed housekeeping had it and gave it no further thought.

The next morning, I put the new remote in the hutch with the TV and went off to work.  That evening, I got back to my room to find the remote right where I left it.  The next day I was to catch an early flight home, so I packed that night in preparation.  When I went to bed, I cleared the nightstand of everything except the alarm and the lamp (They sold $6 spring waters and had fliers that got in the way of things), which was a ritual I did nightly to make sure I didn't wipe out everything on the table trying to turn the alarm off in the morning!

When the alarm went off, I got up and ready to go to the airport.  Before leaving, I would always put the stuff back on the nightstand.  When I went to the nightstand to do this, right in front of the alarm clock was a remote control!  Knowing there was was nothing there when I went to bed, I went to the hutch and confirmed that the other one was indeed still there.  I now had two remote controls!  I checked the door and the bar that would prevent entry from the outside was in place so it was simply not possible for anyone to have entered the room while I slept.

Now I will admit I did not scour the room before I went to bed to know that the second remote was not in the room, but I can say with 100% certainty that it was NOT on the nightstand when I went to bed!  This is the second time,  that something has disappeared and reappeared in a way that would be readily noticed by me.  Now I admit that I tend to have a pretty good eye for detail, but had this happened with just about anything else in the hotel room, I can't say for sure that I would have paid it much heed.  I guess what makes it even more intriguing is that I have not in recent memory recalled ever having had experience with objects vanishing, and now within a 2-3 month period, its happened TWICE!

Choose to believe it or not, but it did happen.

I remember reading from time to time in the past about experiences where people have reported that objects have disappeared and reappeared in the most unlikely of places.  Usually it is a personal possession of some sort such as keys, wallets, glasses, rings and so on.  I have to admit when I have read them I was pretty skeptical that either the person involved was just being absent minded, or maybe the victim of a practical joke.  However after a recent, rather direct experience with this phenomena, I am no longer so sure.

On a recent investigation I had taken with me a red pen that had my day jobs company logo.  I had clipped it to my shirt to have to take notes.  I had verified I had it on two occasions before we started the investigation. Once when I unloaded my car trunk of the equipment we were going to use for the investigation, and then again when I grabbed the pen to offer it to the client to sign the standard investigation consent form (they already had one, so I clipped it back to my shirt)

Midway through the walk through, I realized I did not feel the pen.  I looked down and sure enough, the pen was gone!  What makes this even more odd is the fact that the shirt was a Polo shirt and the pen was not clipped to a pocket but rather the to one side of the collar button up lapel, so one side of the pen lay on my skin! At first I thought maybe it fell into my shirt, but it was not there.  I retraced my steps through the house and the pen was nowhere to be found.  I vocalized to everyone there that the pen was missing but no one else claimed to see it either, so I retrieved a spare pencil I carry around and continued with the investigation.  I have to admit I thought I was losing my mind since being so SURE I had it from the two other times mentioned.

When the investigation concluded several hours later, I took the equipment back to the car.  I opened my trunk and there in the middle of the trunk in plain sight was the pen!  It should also be mentioned that at no time during the investigation did I visit the trunk of my car (had no reason to since I already had all my equipment).  I noted the oddity, but realized that since I did not have any witnesses that had told me they saw the pen with me, I was going to have to mark it down as a personal experience only and accept the slight chance that maybe it had fallen off while I was unloading and had a serious mental lapse over the moment I offered the pen to the owners to use (hey, however odd, ones got to consider it a possibility I guess).

Upon evidence review however, another interesting piece of the mystery was revealed.  We had left a digital recorder running in one of the rooms we were investigating and on the recording, during a section I can be heard discussing the missing pen with another investigator, we caught a class A EVP of a child saying with great pride 'What I got!'.  Intriguing as it was, I still had to mark it as personal experience with one heck of a coincidence to boot!

The kicker came during the reveal of the investigations evidence.  When we started discussing the report and the several pieces of evidence we collected, one of the owners validated that she HAD seen the pen (I had not asked them at the time if they had seen it on me when I came in, I had only asked if they had seen it after it disappeared), and remembered it because they saw me remove it to offer it to them during the consent signing.  So now I had corroboration that they pen WAS in my possession when I entered the house where I remembered it! (I only add the emphasis to show the relief I felt that I wasn't going completely nuts!)

So now I not only have a corroborating witness, I have an entity taking credit for the deed!  They say seeing is believing, or maybe in this case, not seeing?

Be sure to come back soon as we will be posting the evidence from the investigation mentioned here!
