Summary
We started our trip at 6:00pm and headed up the trail towards the base of the Superstition Mountains. It has been noted that there have been over 75 people killed at this site searching for the gold mine. We wanted to see if we could contact anyone....
It took us an hour to get to the base and an hour to get back. It was an easy hike with some steep inclines. I have to first say that this are is gorgeous. As we lost light, we found a bench and decided this would be the perfect place to start some EVP work. Curtis ventured off and decided to check out a place. He came back and wanted Brian to go with him. The two went into the small canyon and their lights disappeared. As I sat on the bench, I got a strange feeling. I heard someone walk right behind me, although there was no one else on the trails. I got on the radio and told Curtis and Brian of what happened. Curtis informed me that the batteries on the camera were completely drained. Even though we had just replaced them when we got to base.
We started back on the trail and stopped here and there to take some shots to see what we could find... mostly bugs and dust... but there are two photos out of 280 taken that night, that prove to be odd. We stopped just as the trail came to a "T". Curtis claimed he had heard a "clacking" noise. Brian heard the same noise and believes that he saw a pair of "red eyes". As we were standing there I was facing the mountain and felt warm air in my face. Like someone was standing right in front of me, breathing on me. I looked up towards the top of the mountain and saw a flickering green light that somewhat resembles the aurora borealis seen in the North Pole. Much smaller though. Unable to figure out what could have made that. We got started on the trail again. During our hour trip back to base, we had to replace the batteries on the camera 3 times, yet the Voice Recorder did not seem to have any battery problems. The radio's kept going off with interference which made it seem more eery.
Conclusion
Although we had a few personal experiences, there is not enough hard core evidence to say that this place is "haunted". I do believe however that we need to make another trip back and hike further up the mountain. Either way, it is a beautiful spot with a lot of energy.
